A Plastic Picnic Set For The Joys Of Summer

Summer is here and the joys of summer are upon us.  Swimming, baseball, volleyball, a hike in the hills, and a picnic in the park are all common events of summer.  While preparing for a family picnic might be labor intensive, nothing is more useful than a plastic picnic set to keep your children entertained and learning some of the organizational skills involved in planning a picnic.  A plastic picnic set can familiarize a young child with the basic essentials used in a picnic such as utensils, cups, bowls, and plates.

A plastic picnic set is not intended to be used in a practical sense.  Instead, it’s really created as a toy for children 5 or under.  A set that is currently available through Amazon.com sells for $19.99.  It includes 38 pieces and comes in a plastic backpack.  A set such as this one is intended to be used by four children.  At first, the set might seem may seem overwhelming to such a young child with so many pieces.  Once the child is among friends, he or she will learn what piece corresponds to which piece and how many pieces each person should have from this plastic picnic set.

The pieces used in this plastic picnic set can actually be used to serve food and drink just so that the child gets some hands on practice in learning picnic etiquette.  The plastic pieces are durable and washable.  This is the perfect opportunity for a kid to learn how to organize a group of friends for a picnic.  A tea set is included in this set complete with a plastic tea kettle and four teacups with saucers.  Instead of tea, perhaps serve lemonade or orange so the child actually has something to serve.

Although a plastic tea set can provide a couple of hours of fun to a child and his or her friends, it’s recommended that the children be supervised by a parent or a supervising adult.  All the pieces are safe to use, however, children left to their own devices can potentially harm themselves.  The utensils, for example, are small enough that if used improperly, children can choke on them.  This is not meant to discourage parents from buying a set but if their children don’t learn how to properly use each piece by watching what the parents are doing, the plastic picnic set can be a hazard if an adult is not around.
